Puddle of Mud has just announced they will be hitting the stage for the Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC) concert on June 20 at the Gibson Amphitheatre.

How do you get tickets? You can’t buy them. You can’t win them either.

The only way to attend is to earn a ticket by volunteering four hours of community service at a BMRC project.

BMRC is partnering with Los Angeles area non-profit organizations for volunteer projects designed to improve areas in the Southern California region. Volunteers work on a range of service projects including school and playground renovation, park preservation, food distribution and much more. Projects are happening now through June 20.

In exchange for contributing four hours of community service, BMRC recruits in the Los Angeles area will earn tickets to the year’s most exclusive rock/ hip-hop concert on June 20 at the stunning Gibson Amphitheatre featuring Flyleaf and more.

If you are interested in becoming part of the Boost Mobile RockCorps movement, call 1-888-ROCK-889, or log onto www.boostmobilerockcorps.com for more information and to register for membership.

MTV News Reports on Puddle in Iraq

From MTVNews.com...

Pretty much everything about the concert — from the head-banging guys to the screaming girls begging to be lifted onstage — resembled a routine Puddle of Mudd show. Except that the stage was four flatbeds pushed together, and the venue was a soccer stadium in Tikrit, Iraq.

On September 12, in front of 1,500 U.S. troops, the band played the ruins of what was once a symbol of Saddam Hussein's dictatorial rule. "It was kind of weird that this person was holding people down ... at this stadium," said guitarist Paul Phillips, "and we go back and have this show and it's all about freedom."

Months prior to Puddle of Mudd's performance, the U.S. military polled its troops in Iraq to find out which band they most wanted to see perform there. They chose Puddle of Mudd, and the band immediately accepted the offer.

"[Our managers] were like, 'Do you want to go to Iraq?' " bassist Douglas Ardito remembered. "And me and [singer] Wes [Scantlin] look at each other and were like, 'Yeah!' We didn't even think twice about it."

Though the soldiers were told about the show three weeks in advance, most were skeptical right up until showtime.

"They said half the soldiers on the bases didn't believe them when they said we were coming," Ardito said. "They were like, 'They're not going to come here,' because so many people have backed out after saying the right thing."

"I think a lot of it has to do with a lot of these artists and bands living pretty high on the hog," offered Scantlin. "It's not luxurious when you're over there. You're breathing sand through the air. It's like 130 degrees, and it's not for artists that chill in, you know, super-super-nice houses."

Puddle of Mudd were up for the challenge, heading first to Germany, where they played two shows for troops stationed there. During that stop they met a soldier who'd just been wounded in Iraq by a roadside bomb, and it drove home the reality of the situation they were headed into.

The soldier, who'd lost his eyes and most of his left arm, was awarded the Bronze Star, which he gave to the band at a meet-and-greet in Friedberg. "I just cried," said drummer Greg Upchurch.

After flying into Kuwait City, Kuwait, and having a particularly disconcerting conversation with a security guard in the airport ("Don't let your guard down," he warned Ardito) the band traveled to Tikrit.

Before a crowd featuring a throng of female soldiers dancing and tossing their hair, Puddle of Mudd played a set that ended with the hit single "She Hates Me." During the final song, Scantlin invited three women wearing "We Want Up" shirts to come onstage. Before he knew it, he said, 25 to 30 people were behind him. "At the end of the song, all of the girls, everybody, just stage-dived into the crowd."

Before leaving Tikrit, Puddle of Mudd accepted an invitation to come back and perform again. "War is scary," said Upchurch, "but when you're with these people, it's like you're a part of their family, so they make you feel very comfortable."

"I'm not scared anymore," said Scantlin. "We met a lot of amazing people, and we all learned a lot about things we didn't know about, so at the end of the day, I think we'd all go back."

Platinum Pass Winners Report Part 2

Platinum Pass Winners Report Part 2

The second half of the road diary from Puddle of Mudd's Platinum Pass winners...

Day 5
Today they have their show in Maryland, so we were taken over to the venue to watch everyone set up! We saw what the soundboard guys do, that was interesting! After that we got to just hang out around the venue and on the bus until the concert started. The concert tonight was so good! The crowed was really into it tonight, they were crazy, it was great! After the concert we got to hang out with Paul and Greg for a while and talk. Then it was time to head off to the next place.

Day 6
Virginia Beach. Today was really cool…we got to go to the radio station with the band were they did a live acoustic version of their new single Spin you around… it was really good. They let us take pictures in there, as well as afterwards we got in pictures with them. That was a lot of fun! After that we just hung out and relaxed for the day until the show started! Of course they put on a great performance!

Day 7
The second day in Virginia Beach. Have I mentioned the AMAZING room that they put us in yet?? Its right on the beach so we had a great view! It was another day off for the band which was cool, everyone did their own thing, so we just wandered around and also relaxed on the beach, and it was really nice! Later that night Wes called us and asked if we wanted to go out…like we were going to say no! We had so much fun, we went on a crazy ride, I think its called the mind eraser…all I have to say is NEVER again! I went on with Wes and Ebony went on with Jose…After that we needed to go somewhere and sit down before we all got sick! We went to a local bar, where Wes talked us into doing Karaoke….not a good idea! We did do it though, it wasn’t a pretty site! But we had a lot of fun. Unfortunately it was really late so we had to call it a night!

Day 8
We are now in North Carolina! Wow it’s hot here, we are definitely not used to this! Since it was our last day Wes came over to the bus and hung out with us, even though he should have been getting ready for the show. We talked for a while, until it was time to go on stage. We were getting sad that it was our last day! We couldn’t believe how fast our time on tour was ending! After the show was over we were invited back to their bus where we all said our good byes and they signed a drum stick and some pictures for us! Then it was time to go on our way on the tour bus where our families were waiting! It was hard to walk away for this experience; it was definitely an incredible time for both of us! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Platinum Pass Winners Report Part 1

Platinum Pass Winners Report Part 1

Below is the tour diary from Gabrielle Askin, the winner of PoM's Platinum Pass contest and her friend Ebony Butler.

Day 1
Today was the first day of us being on tour with Puddle of Mudd. We are from right outside Philly so we drove about two hours to Hershey to meet up with them at the Hershey Stadium. When we arrived we met up with Brent and Sharky (two really cool guys) who helped us get our passes and made sure we got settled on our bus. When the bus rolled up we were so excited…We were getting our own tour bus, that’s insane! We met our bus driver Scott (the coolest Texan around). When we got on the bus we were shocked 8 bunks all to ourselves!
The band was running a little late so when they arrived they had to get ready to be on stage so we didn’t get to meet them. We did meet Derek, he is the tour manager of the band, he welcomed us but was a little overwhelmed with things to do, needless to say it was a short meeting with him, he is really nice though!
We did get to watch the show, both of us loved it! We really liked how they didn’t have any pyrotechnics; it was just them doing their thing! By the time we got back to the bus P.O.M had already left to go to the next place, so we didn’t get to meet them. We did, however, have a visit from Wes’s assistant, Jose. He came on the bus and made himself right at home, he was very outgoing and made us feel right at home! 

Day 2
Today we went to Camden, NJ which is very close to home! We arrived at the Tweeter Center around lunch time, so we decided to go grab something to eat. As we got off the bus we noticed that there were two guys walking toward us. I looked over at Ebony and said that’s Wes…Wes and Jose were coming over to greet us! Wes gave us a huge hug and invited us to his bus to meet everyone else; he didn’t have to ask us twice! Everyone was so nice and outgoing! They made us feel like we belonged there, which is not what I was expecting. We got to sit around and talk with them for a while; it was a lot of fun! They had to get ready for there show so it was time for us to leave, but they told us that we could watch the show from the side of the stage, it was incredible!
Jose took us around after we got off the bus and gave us a tour of the stage and backstage as well. We never realized how much is involved in getting a concert together! Then it was show time, once again it was a great show! It just seems to get better and better!

Day 3

We are now in Darian Lake NY, I had never seen this part of NY it was like a country side almost! It was cool though because they were performing at a Six Flags! This meant that we get to go on the rides! That kept us busy for a couple of hours, which was good because the band was getting ready for the concert!
When we went back to the bus, Paul (guitarist) came over for a visit! He was extremely nice, he was just hanging out in our bus, we talked for an hour or so or until it was dinner time! We did get to have dinner with everyone, we got to talk to Greg (drummer) and his fiancé (Noelle) they were really cool to talk with! They kept making sure that we were being taken care of, which was so sweet of them!
After that they went on stage and we got to watch from the side again, we could really get used to this, we don’t know how we are going to go back to sitting in bad seats next to drunken idiots!!

Day 4
Maryland. Today is the bands day off, which is well deserved! Ebony and I decided to go off and explore for the day, most of the places we went to already were not near any stores or anything, so it was good to get away! We pretty much kept ourselves busy while the band slept in and took care of business. Later that night, though, they invited us to come on their bus and hang out! It was a lot of fun, they showed us their new video (spin you around), which hasn’t even been released yet! It was really good (III think it’s one of my personal favorite songs). We got to hang out for hours listening to music and joke around!

A Day To Rave About

A Day To Rave About

From BostonHerald.com: A sun-splashed cavalcade of blaring rock and new school punk ushered in the summer of 2004 yesterday in a frantic Memorial Day weekend romp at Mansfield's Tweeter Center...

...Neo-grungers Puddle of Mudd followed, delivering an even set of heart-tugging muscle rock. Lead singer Wes Scantlin led his band through a power-packed version of ``Control'' that morphed into a metal cover of the Black Sabbath classic, ``War Pigs.'' Radio hits like ``Drift and Die,'' ``She (expletive) Hates Me,'' and the spine-chilling dysfunctional family tale ``Blurry'' had the crowd enthralled.

"HEEL OVER HEAD” # 1 MOST ADDED THIS WEEK AT ROCK RADIO

Santa Monica, California, February 4, 2004: - It’s not even the official add date yet for Puddle Of Mudd’s second single “Heel Over Head” and it was the number one most added track at Active Rock and Alternative Rock Radio this week! Early adds include hometown station KRBZ/Kansas City, WBCN/Boston, WAAF/Boston, WXRK/New York, 99X/Atlanta and many more.

The official add date for “Heel Over Head” is February 16th. You can catch Puddle Of Mudd playing their new single on the road as the band recently kicked off an 8 week headlining tour January 23rd in Albuquerque, NM (with Instruction supporting. Puddle Of Mudd also finds some time in between headlining gigs to hook up with Kid Rock on some dates (complete itinerary below).

Puddle Of Mudd’s sophomore effort, Life On Display, was released on Flawless/Geffen Records November 25th. Life On Display was recorded in Los Angeles, with production duties shared between John Kurzweg, Michael “Elvis” Baskette and the band themselves. The new album’s premiere single "Away From Me" has been sitting on the top of the Rock Radio charts for over two months now and was #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart for 4 weeks in a row.

Life On Display follows the phenomenal 5 million-plus worldwide sales of the band’s 2001 debut Come Clean. Come Clean spawned no less than four #1 alternative and rock radio hit singles (“Blurry,” “She Hates Me,” “Control” and “Drift And Die”), with “Blurry” becoming the most played track on Modern Rock Radio for 2002 and bringing home the ASCAP award for most played song of the year

Puddle Of Mudd To Spin Out Acoustic, Live Albums
Puddle

From VH1.com: UNIVERSAL CITY, California — During Puddle of Mudd's club tour last fall, the band regularly dropped into rock stations along the way to perform a live acoustic song or two.

The downside: "If it's before 4 o'clock, it's gonna be sketchy," drummer Greg Upchurch admitted. "You can't just wake up and start going."

The upside: Puddle of Mudd liked what they heard. So much so that an acoustic album is in the works for later this year.

"Most of our songs were written on acoustic guitars, so you're inevitably gonna have to record 'em [that way]," singer Wes Scantlin said backstage during KROQ-FM's recent Almost Acoustic Christmas show. "And it's a cool, raw way to record your music.
